Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Oncology position requiring Level I trauma experience and AZ or compact RN licensure.
Responsibilities
- Position is in the Oncology Acute Telemetry unit within an acute care hospital
- 32-bed unit with an 85% oncology and 15% med/surg patient mix
- Average nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4
- Requires interpreting EKG telemetry using Phillips equipment
- CPAP and BiPAP ventilation support provided on unit
- EMR system used is Cerner
- 12-hour day shifts from 7 am to 7 pm, with four weekend shifts per four weeks
- Scheduled holiday coverage based on unit needs
- Floats to other Med/Surg or Tele units as required
- Floor-specific orientation includes 2 days on the unit and SIMs Lab
- Daily duties include nursing care for oncology, surgical, and medical patients with a focus on oncology cases
- Will complete SIMs Lab skills including Foley catheter and central line dressing change
- Strict adherence to sterile technique required for continued employment
- Team includes a charge nurse with light assignment, oncology resource RN, and two PCTs per shift
- Support services include 24/7 RT and pharmacy, plus SWAT RN for difficult IVs
- Scrub color is navy, and natural hair color with no facial piercings allowed
- Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- First-time travelers accepted
- Pass/fail skills and clinical competency testing required on Day 1 of orientation
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact RN license required at the time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute care RN experience
- Level I trauma experience required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Chemo certification preferred
- Must be able to interpret EKGs
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer
- Must pass sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on Day 1
- References required: one supervisor from last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from last 3 years
- Must provide driver's license for residency verification (50-mile radius rule applies)
- May not have been employed by system facility (including CHI and Dignity) in the past year
