The Department of Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) is seeking an exceptional and forward-thinking colorectal surgeon to join the Division of Surgical Oncology as an Assistant or Associate Professor. This is an outstanding opportunity for a dynamic academic surgeon to shape the future of colorectal care in a prestigious environment dedicated to excellence in patient care, innovation, education, and research. UMMC is Mississippi’s only academic health sciences center and a tertiary/quaternary referral destination. The Division of Surgical Oncology provides the full spectrum of advanced colorectal services, including (but not limited to): Colon and Rectal Cancer. Minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic colectomy and proctectomy. Sphincter-preserving rectal cancer surgery with total mesorectal excision (TME) and multidisciplinary care. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) surgery, including ileal pouch–anal anastomosis (IPAA) for ulcerative colitis and restorative procedures for familial polyposis. Advanced endoluminal management of complex polyps (in collaboration with Gastroenterology), and comprehensive diagnostic/therapeutic colonoscopy. Anorectal surgery (hemorrhoids, fissure, fistula—including LIFT/advancement flap—as well as pilonidal disease). Complex re-operative and pelvic surgery, stoma creation/reversal, and perioperative optimization via Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) pathways. Pelvic floor/Rectal Prolapse – robotic assisted rectopexy for rectal prolapse The division partners closely with the UMMC Cancer Center and Research Institute, Gastroenterology, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Pathology, Radiology, Pelvic Floor Therapy, and specialized wound/ostomy nursing. Advanced practice providers (APPs) support care across the OR, inpatient units, and clinics.
