Description

Interventional Radiology, Section Chief, Associate or Full Professor

Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences

University of Utah

Description:  The Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences, University of Utah, is seeking a CAQ certified, fellowship trained Interventional Radiologist to lead its expanding Interventional Radiology (IR) section as a section chief.  IR faculty members are expected to develop and lead specific clinical service lines, participate in an IR call pool, initiate or participate in research projects, and actively engage in teaching of residents and fellows.  In addition to routine interventional radiology procedures, the section offers robust programs in interventional oncology and complex transplant and hepatobiliary intervention.  The interventional radiology faculty currently consists of seven faculty members, including the section chief, and groups of physician assistants, nurse practitioners, technologists, and nurses.  There are accredited residency (DR-IR) and IR fellowship programs.  The Department and Huntsman Cancer Institute strongly support research opportunities and developments.

Qualifications:  The ideal section chief candidate would have a minimum of 5 years of experience (preferably 7-10 years) in all aspects of IR operations.  Outstanding clinical and interpersonal skills are a prerequisite.  Evidence of prior academic work as well as prior management experience is strongly desired.  Ideal applicant would have excellent organizational skills and be comfortable maintaining and creating IT solutions in support of clinical workflow. Experience with data analysis and the support and management of an Interventional Radiology clinic would also be helpful.  It is expected that this individual will contribute to and flourish a collegial environment that will promote the growth of the section in alignment with department goals.  The academic appointment will be at a rank of Associate or Full Professor.

Facilities and Institution:  The section provides clinical services at the University Hospital, VA medical center and the Huntsman Cancer Hospital, an NCI-designated premier cancer center. The University Hospital draws patients from the 5 touching states of Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado and Wyoming.  Resources include a recently opened 2-floor IR suite in the main hospital as well as a new room at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital and a second room that has been updated, both within a completely redesigned clinical platform. Further expansion of IR resources at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital is currently planned.  Imaging resources outside of IR include MR, dual-energy CT, and PET-CT, available for clinical work and research.  The Utah Center for Advanced Imaging Research (UCAIR) in the Department offers world-class research opportunities in advanced medical imaging and interventional device developments such as MR-guided Focused Ultrasound.  Research C-arm for pre-clinical studies is also available for interventional radiology research. The University of Utah Health Sciences offer various leadership programs and training opportunities for faculty members.  A national leader in quality care, the University of Utah Hospital and Clinics were ranked #1 in Quality, Safety, and Accountability among all academic medical centers and consistently ranked in the top 10 over 10 years in a row.

Location:  The University of Utah is located in Salt Lake City, in the foothill of the Wasatch Mountains at the western edge of the Rocky Mountains.  Salt Lake City is a rapidly growing, multicultural city, listed at one of the top 10 Best Place for Business and Careers. Seven ski and summer resorts, including Park City (home of the Sundance Film Festival), Deer Valley, Alta, and Snowbird (Oktoberfest), are located a short drive from the campus.  Within a day’s drive are nine U.S. National Parks.  Salt Lake City is one of the most beautiful, safe, and affordable cities across the USA.
