Description
Advanced Women’s Care is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Gynecologic Oncology team with a strong focus on surgical assisting and inpatient management. This role is ideal for an oncology APP who thrives in both the operating room and hospital setting, while also maintaining continuity of care in the outpatient clinic.
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will provide comprehensive care to patients with gynecologic malignancies across the continuum—from diagnosis and active treatment to survivorship and follow-up. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with gynecologic oncologists in a dynamic, team-based environment.
The APP will work closely with gynecologic oncologists across the full continuum of care, with primary responsibilities including first-assisting in complex oncologic surgeries, inpatient rounding, and post-operative management.
Core Responsibilities
Surgical Assist
- First assist in gynecologic oncology procedures including:
- Robotic and laparoscopic surgeries
- Open abdominal procedures
- Staging and debulking surgeries
- Hysterectomies, lymphadenectomies, and complex pelvic procedures
- Pre-operative patient evaluation and surgical clearance coordination
- Post-operative orders, documentation, and care planning
- Collaboration with anesthesia, OR staff, and surgical teams
Inpatient Rounding & Hospital Care
- Daily inpatient rounding on post-operative and oncology patients
- Manage pain control, post-surgical complications, and acute oncologic issues
- Order and interpret labs, imaging, and diagnostic studies
- Coordinate discharge planning and transitions of care
- Communicate with consulting services and hospital teams
Outpatient & Oncology Management
- Conduct follow-up visits and symptom management appointments
- Manage chemotherapy-related side effects and treatment complications
- Participate in tumor boards and multidisciplinary care meetings
- Provide patient and family education
- Assist with survivorship care planning
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and evaluations
- Collaborate with gynecologic oncologists to develop and implement treatment plans
- Manage oncology-related symptoms and treatment side effects
- Provide patient and family education regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and supportive care
- Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and care planning meetings
- Coordinate care with surgical oncology, radiation oncology, infusion services, and external providers
Requirements
Qualifications Required:
- Minimum of 2+ years of oncology experience as an NP or PA
- Prior surgical assisting experience required (robotic and/or open surgery preferred) if applying for the inpatient/outpatient position, not required for outpatient only position
- Active Arizona license or intention to obtain Arizona license
For Nurse Practitioners:
- Master’s degree from accredited NP program
- Current AZ RN and APRN license or intention to obtain Arizona license
- FNP or AGPCNP certification
For Physician Assistants:
- Graduate of accredited PA program
- NCCPA certification
- Licensed by AZ State Board of Medical Practice or intention to obtain Arizona license
Additional Requirements:
- BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross) at start date
- DEA registration required
- ACLS certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
- Strong procedural skills and surgical knowledge
- Ability to work independently in the hospital setting
- Excellent communication and critical thinking skills
